Firefighters Handle Field Fire - ​04/21/2017

 Firefighters from Companies 7, 8, and 9 all responded to this fast moving field fire on some farmland on Old Kentland Road this afternoon. The first arriving officer was met with a 200x200 burning portion that was moving quickly towards a farm house. The forestry units went to work handling the field while Engine 912 took the role as exposure control at the farm house.

Marine 112 and Marine 212 Take in Search - 07/14/2017

Early on during one of the Height's very busy Summer evenings, Fire Dispatch recieved a call for an overdue kayaker on the Mesomehomic River. Firefighters deployed Marine 112 to set up a grid and patrol the river, while Marine 212 searched docks, slips, and beaches in the area along with ground units. The search went on into the night time hours, and the victim was discovered in the nearby Town of Willowdale deceased. It is believed that she suffered a medical event and drowned before she could summon help.

Heights FFs Battle Busy, Dry Wildfire Season - 08/19/2017

Washington Heights Firefighters weren't short of any action this fire season, battaling constant brush and wildland fires ranging from small to large scale all across the state. Many of these fires exhausted numerous fire department units and resources, stretching them thin as the continued to build fire lines, extinguish, and contain the never ending blazes. Below are a few photos from a large, week long fire in the municipality of Washington Heights.

in 2016, nearly 70,000 human-caused wildland fires burned over 4-Million acres of land in the United States alone. Don't be a part of the statistic, do your part and be diligent when it comes to fire safety and prevention. Remember, only you can prevent forest fires!
